The main ingredient is a flavonoid compound isolated from the fruit of Artichoke, a plant of the genus Artichoke, family Asteraceae. Silymarin extract is made from the dried fruit of Silybum marianum G. The extract is usually labelled as containing 80% total silymarin. Silymarin, a naturally occurring active substance extracted from the dried fruit of Silybum marianum, family Asteraceae, consists mainly of silybin, isosilybim, silydianin and silychristin.
